Community Spotlight: 10-year-old Running A 5K For A Cure

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — For Wednesday's Community Spotlight, Max Gauble of the Bottenfield Elementary School cross country team and his mom Lindsay sat down to discuss why he signed his team up for Friday's 5K in Champaign.

The team is raising money for the Brain Aneurysm Foundation. 10-year-old Max said his father had a ruptured brain aneurysm last February, so he was inspired to help find a cure.

"I'm very proud of him," Lindsay said.

Max said he has never done a 5K before, but he and his team have been practicing twice a week and are up to the challenge.

"Keep going even if your legs hurt," he advised. "Just forget about it or run with friends that will make you forget about it."

To contribute to Max and his team's cause, you can donate through their fundraising page or give directly to the Brain Aneurysm Foundation through their website.

Lancaster County Prison: Woman Detained Since March Died Last Week Of Aneurysm

A 60-year-old woman detained at Lancaster County Prison died last week after being transported to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital, officials reported Monday.

The cause of death was cerebral aneurysm, according to a news release from the Lancaster County Commissioners Office, and the coroner ruled it a "natural manner of death."

Deborah F. McClucas was found unresponsive in her cell at 8:24 p.M. On April 16, according to officials. Her family was notified of her transfer to LGH, according to the news release.

Prison officials checked with LGH daily for updates on McClucas' condition, according to the county news release, until they were told Monday that she had died on April 17.

McClucas had been detained at the prison since March 19 due to a bench warrant for a technical parole violation, according to the news release.

LNPLancasterOnline was unable to reach a surviving family member of McClucas Monday.

Lancaster County Prison Warden Cheryl Steberger and LGH did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday.

Community Mentor In Coma Following Brain Aneurysm

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A Columbus family is asking for prayers after a man suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm, leaving him in a coma.

While Ernest Levert is not originally from Columbus, he is heavily involved in the community as founder of the Royal Oak Initiative, where he helps children learn the game of chess and create a solid life foundation.

On April 3, Levert experienced a sudden ruptured brain aneurysm and has been in a coma ever since.

Levert has been living in Columbus for 10 years, and his wife Ivory said this isn't how she imagined the end of her pregnancy going, but she remains hopeful.

"People have flown in to see him and I think that's a testament to the impact that he's had, the impact that he's had on really making people feel seen and heard and empowered in their voice and who they are," Ivory Levert said. "So it's so much bigger than chess. You know, chess is a part of it, but it's way bigger than that."

Ivory Levert said she's so grateful for all the messages and support she's gotten during this difficult time.
